I have a paper tomorrow, so this has gotta be a quick one ): This is my most anticipated series of the season, very much because of my love for the first installment of The Quiz Show. I’ve been wanting to do a write-up about the first season, but never got the motivation or time to do so. Hopefully I can do it soon, like from tomorrow onwards XD.

Both Sakurai and Yokoyama lost so much weight. But they look so much better, especially Sakurai D:

Premise. Kamiyama Satoru (Sakurai Sho) wakes up in a isolation ward, pale, confused and frightened by the dream he had, but has no memories of anything about himself. So far, all that we know is that he drowned, leaving him in a vegetative state for 6 years, and he largely lost all his memories after he woke up.

The door of the ward opens, and Honma Toshio (Yokoyama Yu) walks in and says ‘it’s time’ coldly. Kamiyama thus get to leave the isolation ward with only one thing to do: to be the host of a wildly popular quiz show ‘The Quiz Show’.

It's kinda creepy that Kamiyama is everywhere...in every sense.

The rules of ‘The Quiz Show’ is fairly simple. There are 7 questions that a participants have to answer, and they will win 10 million yen  if they get through. They will then have the opportunity use the prize money as a stake to challenge a ‘dream chance’. If they answer it correctly, they will be allowed to fulfil any one wish that they have. They will lose the 10 million if they answer the dream chance question wrongly.

It's a quiz show, no it's drama, no it's a quiz show....

This is the live telecast of the programme for the first time, and a singer was chosen to be the contestant for this episode. While the questions started really normal, it started getting weird from the forth question onwards. To the producer’s Saejima Ryoko’s (Maya Miki) dismay, Honma changed the preset questions meant for the quiz, into question that would ultimately reveal the musician’s dark secret to the nation. 

What is Honma’s motive in divulging people’s private lives in a game show? Is he only interested in the ratings, or are there any other motives? What’s the blank in Kamiyama’s memories? Honma is desperate to make Kamiyama recover his memories, but for what reason? These are the questions  that The Quiz Show will answer in the coming weeks.

Impression. I’m a big fan of the first season, so naturally I would compare the two series. 

Still as creepy and twisted. Hehehe. XD

From what I read on the forums, many thought that Sakurai would not be able to deliver the role as well as Katagiri Jin (the host actor of the first season), but he did a good job in my opinion. I am really glad that Sakurai’s version of the host is, essentially, different from Katagiri’s. Although they are both sacarastic and rude, Katagiri’s Tazaki has more of a looney tone, while Sakurai has a streak of seriousness and evilness.

In fact, I thought his fear and confusion in the isolation ward was stronger than Katagiri’s, which would be more reasonable  if you are locked in a room not knowing why the hell you are there. Honma’s role also lacked the sense of lunacy that Yamanobe (the first season producer) had, but he is way scarier than Yamanobe is. The prime difference between the Kamiyama/Honma over the Tazaki/Yamanobe pairing is that Kamiyama seems to be really fearful of Honma, while Tazaki was never looked too scared of Yamanobe. The last scene of this episode shows Kamiyama’s fear of Honma rather effectively.

Differences aside, it was disappointing that both seasons used the same type of contestants for their debut episode: musicians who committed the same sin. The outcome of the episode would naturally be the same, which killed most of the excitment. Sakurai even asked the same question used in the season 1 episode (what is it like to be a third grade musician), which was a total turn off. I am not interested in watching what I know to expect next (just as I refuse to watch the Korean Hana Yori Dango for the 5th time), so yeah, I hope it would be different from the next episode onwards.

So I think Japan is rallying to host the 2016 Paralympic games, and they are doing a presentation to the IOC for the evaluation. My idol, basically represented Japan to give a short speech about the wishes he (or Japan) has towards the olympics.

He spoke in 4 languages (English, Japanese, Korean and Mandarin), and he sounded really good! I think that’s the reason he was selected to be the representative. 

(And I think because he is tall. See he’s SO tall that he has to stand in a awkward manner to get closer to the mic)

And omg. He looks like some prime minister. If only politicians are as hot as he is. XD

(Wah seh, Hiraoka’s facial features is so much…finer than Mizukawa’s o_0)

I shouldn’t be here, but I don’t feel like studying anyway. So…yeah.

Premise. Our man of the day is Mahigashi Teru (Hiraoka Yuta), one who has just started on his career as a surgeon. Teru is a observant, compassionate but also a panicky and clumsy newcomer, earning him a poor impression amongst the senior surgeons, except for the director of the hospital, who affectionally calls him ‘clumsy-teru’. (and of course have an insight about exactly how capable he is)

He has a sad history, and no offense, an extremely dramatic one. He was the only survivor of a plane crash when he was a child, one which took his father life as well. His father, also a surgeon known with his  ’God’s hand’, died after reviving him using cardiac message, with a piece of the plane stuck in his back all the while o_o. The handprint of his father got imprinted and remained on Teru’s chest till today. 

The handprint is supernatural element #1. How do you leave a handprint on someone’s chest for life without first breaking all his ribs (and killing him)?  This is, I suppose, the power of god’s hand.

And next we have to deal with supernatural element #2. The amazing thing about Teru is, despite his clumsiness, he turns into a cool, swift genius who saves the lives of critical patients when circumstances arises,  so much so that it impresses everyone. Even more amazingly, he could revive a child’s heart that stopped beating by just placing his hand on it. That’s really cool, but not so when he will collaspe, fall asleep and awake with no memories of what happened during his transformation after he does the job.

He will awake with no recollection of his heroic act. That sucks.

The other lead is Shinomiya Kozue (Mizukawa Asami), though she didn’t get much introduction in this episode. From what we know thus far, she is a talented surgeon, who wants to perfect the art of being a surgeon. So there might be some conflicts we can expect between herself and Teru, regarding the compassion issue.

I don't see any chance of romance between the 2 leads.

With the faith that he’s not going to let any patients die, Teru will be the savior for many to come. While screwing up in many situations to come.

Impression. This episode didn’t really explain Teru’s power, apart from calling it ‘the absolute fate’. From my shallow analysis, if one can suddenly do something that he normally couldn’t, and yet remembers nothing about what he has done, it might be due to one of the following reasons: 

1. He’s possessed by his father, his father locked his soul in the handprint when he died, and will release himself whenever critical situations arises.
2. He’s down with dissociative identity disorder, one the clumsy and not-so-cool Teru, one the cool like plastic genius Teru.
3. His father hypnotized him just before he died, and he goes into a hypnotic trance and save people whenever the circumstances arises. 
4. HE’S GOT SUPERPOWER WITH POOR MEMORY! ’nuff said.

You know I am crapping. But I guess we are indeed supposed to believe that Teru’s got the genes of his genius father that will only be awakened when he faces critical situations. Wow, extreme hidden talent.

It's a pity Teru's coolness is covered by a surgical mask.

The premise reminds me of the Trauma Centre series on the nds and Wii, which talks about doctors gifted with a superpower called the healing touch. They could, basically, slow the time down, giving them to perform surgical actions with more precision and with lesser complications. 

And yeah, Derek Stiles sucked too. I mean he sucked before he got really cool. I guess the ‘you must suck before you can get cool’ is the golden rule for all inspirational fictions. lol.

Apart from the supernatural element, Godhand Teru is quite a standard medical series thus far, with conflicts that we commonly see in other medical series. Still, Hiraoka Yuta has done a good job in his spilt second transformation between the clumsy-teru to cool-teru, and he’s really cool during his trance.  Although I’m not that comfortable with the idea, but if what he has is really superpower then so-be-it, as long as they can justify what exactly his ‘powers’ are. 

But no I am not feeling better.
